Our oceans are suffocating but on one small island off the coast of Bali, I have a chance to make a difference. On December 8th, 2018, I will be joining a group of 30 brave people from around the world who will race over land and ocean in a race against time to protect the future of the islands of Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Ceningan. Previously pristine islands of the coast of Bali that have been heavily impacted by massive tourism growth and poor waste management.
The Bali Hope SwimRun will involve running approximately 20 km and swimming 3 km. My fund raising target for this event is $2500 which will contribute to saving 100’s and 100’s of tons of plastic being dumped into our oceans every year. Proceeds raised from this event will support desperately needed upgrades to a recycling facility on the island set up by Friends of Lembongan. FOL are a community based organisation promoting the clean up of rubbish & education of sustainable, safe waste management practices for these islands. An equal share of funds raised from this event will go towards the education program being delivered on the islands by award winning charity, Bali Children Foundation. BCF teamed up with FOL 2 years ago to empower the youth of both of these islands through education. English, environmental and computer studies will provide them with the skills they need to maintain control of their community and prevent a potential environmental disaster.

I hope that through promoting Bali Hope Swim Run I can spread the message that it is up to each of us as consumers to change our behaviors and habits in an effort to protect our precious environment.
The more people that know about Bali Hope and Bali Children Foundation Limited, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.
